Skelly did not mention LRT at all in her platform "Seven goals for ward 7":

  • Enhance infrastructure
  • Expand Seniors services
  • Increase access to affordable housing
  • Attract investment to Hamilton that creates jobs and expands the commercial (business) tax base
  • Improve transportation routes
  • Promote Arts and Culture
  • Get things done!

She also didn't mention LRT in her Hamiltonian interview, or at various public forums leading up to the by-election:

No one could look at this list of priorities and guess that Skelly would make opposition to LRT the signature priority of her first year as Councillor!

In fact, these goals would seem to be completely consistent with supporting an LRT project already funded by the Province and that Council had steadfastly pursued for eight years. After all, LRT "enhances infrastructure" (at no cost to the city), improves transportation routes, and opposing LRT is the opposite of "getting things done" (it is obstructing things).
