Rates are rates.

Over 100,000 people died in Ontario last year. 138 of them were pedestrians killed in car accidents. That is close to 1 in a 100,000 chance that in any given year you are going to be killed as a pedestrian. If you live 80 years, your chances are the same each year.

Where do you get 37% chance of being injured or killed in your lifetime?
