I Drive a Hybrid, I'm as Green as Anybody

While North Carolina struggles through the worst drought in its history, The News & Observer reports that Duke University and UNC-Chapel Hill continue to water their football fields regularly.

Make that their astroturf football fields.

Citing field hockey regulations that require colleges to saturate their fields before practices and games, officials from the colleges explained that it has been shown to reduce the incidence of player injuries.

Worth the price of admissions is this quote from Beth Bozman, the field hockey coach at Duke, who commiserates with outraged passers-by:

"I drive a hybrid, and I recycle," Bozman said. "I'm as green as anybody. I understand."

Not that the schools have any intention of changing their policies as the state runs down its 69 day supply of fresh water.

The mind absolutely boggles.

No doubt about it, lorne...

Down here we strive to attain that perfect balance between stupidity and outright stupidity.

We only hope there are enough (prescription) drugs left to make collapse into energy descent as memorable as our last shopping experience at the Wal-mart.

How could anybody wanna live anywhere else?

By the way, is there enough free space left in Canada for about, oh, 20 or 30 million confederate-types when they get real thirsty? If we could only get em outta here,... heh.

It just goes to show you that athletics is big business in the US. Another form of corporate welfare.
