Time to Scrap Transit Fares

While I applaud the Mayor's plans for cutting our greenhouse gas emissions, I am struck by one glaring omission: Transit fares.

If we are serious about getting people to use transit surely it's high time we stopped charging for it.

Now we have these latest efforts to introduce smart cards and integrate the different systems in the GTA. What's the point?!

Dalton McGuinty has just announced $17 billion for transit funding. Surely the time is right to scrap fares altogether and give our transit system the kick up the pants it needs.

While we're at it, let's scrap GO fares too. We can obviously afford it, and given our aggressive emissions targets, we know it's the right thing to do.
