Fringe 2016 Review: Teeny Tiny Music Show

One of the most talked-about shows of this year’s Hamilton Fringe is the immersive musical rave-up Teeny Tiny Music Show at the Baltimore House replete with singing, dancing, and even pizza.

Hayley Pace and Luc Gaylie are a singer and pianist duo that are portraying a lounge act. The atmosphere at the Baltimore is clearly perfect for something like this as it is actually a music venue that has fantastic atmosphere (dimly lit, eclectic furniture, etc.).

When I arrived it was standing room only and the bar was very busy, the piano was playing, and it definitely felt like there was something serious going on. Soon enough, Hayley was singing and the show was underway.

As the performance wore on, Hayley sang from various parts of the room and consistently more musicians kept appearing out of some magical clown car. They were on the tables, behind the bar, and playing a wide variety of horns, flutes, guitars, and more.

They rolled through various popular songs in fairly diverse styles from pop to klezmer and were thoroughly entertaining and the lifeblood of the show. Towards the end, some pizza arrived and it became part of the show as well.

This performance was fun and the loose atmosphere was a nice change from the rest of the festival. My only concern was that I found it very difficult to hear any of the singing or spoken word as the voices were mixed really low which made the loose narrative impossible to follow (unless Hayley was right beside me and I could hear her natural voice). Not that it mattered as the musicians were so fun!

Definitely worth seeing.

Finally racing at 80-90 km/h is absent at this route and cycles can safely ride along this road. I read this news earlier on how calm and beautiful the city became for cycling community with installing of these bikes lanes.

My favourite absurd moment was when Marisa & Hayley were discussing Marisa’s future wedding. I also enjoyed when the marching band played their instruments in the aisles of the auditorium while simultaneously playing with an inflatable beach ball.
