On Thursday, Matt Jelly and Gunner Smith of CFMU Radio interviewed Roger Gillespie, executive producer of CBC Hamilton.
The interview runs 38 minutes 52 seconds and provides a candid look into how the new digital station is going so far, what challenges it faces, and where it might go in the months ahead.

Maybe it was the fact that Gillespie was evidently fighting off a bug, or the fact that Matt was obviously fond of the discourse here where we expressed our disappointment in CBC Hamilton... but that was one of the most awkward and defensive interviewees I've ever heard, in spite of the fact that Matt and Gunner were quite friendly. I mean, Matt did ask a few of the obvious, hard questions... but they weren't hostile at all.
Either way, as much as Gillespie tried not to blame the CBC main office, it really feels like he's frustrated with his budget and we're getting the bare minimum from the CBC. That and it seems like they're just generating content without a larger strategy and putting it online... which is exactly the wrong way to do things if you want people to start becoming habitual users of your site.

I experienced dejavu while I listened to the Gillespie interview:
"...So we're experimenting with content and content delivery, uh u umm, no one least of all me would profess that we have IT right yet. Uh we're experimenting as we go and we get lot's of feedback from the community...My gut instinct tells a traditional journalist, because I am err uhh smtck um, TRAINED in traditional journalism, is a, is uh sometimes wrong! Um the things that traditional journalists think will, resonate with the audience don't...I think there's a real GULF between uh big traditional media and the audience!...We don't really wannabe big traditional journalists, we are doing a series of stories this week on mental health leading up to a Town Hall next weak."
Translation: Big Traditional Media = Mainstream News
So sorry Mr. Gillespie because you see Roger, you won't find me at the Rotary ever. I'm simply a Gage Park Community Gardener, although I'm intrigued however, that CBC seeks to be better.
Thanks for sharing Mr. Jelly and Gunner.
