On Thursday, Matt Jelly and Gunner Smith of CFMU Radio interviewed Roger Gillespie, executive producer of CBC Hamilton.

The interview runs 38 minutes 52 seconds and provides a candid look into how the new digital station is going so far, what challenges it faces, and where it might go in the months ahead.

Maybe it was the fact that Gillespie was evidently fighting off a bug, or the fact that Matt was obviously fond of the discourse here where we expressed our disappointment in CBC Hamilton... but that was one of the most awkward and defensive interviewees I've ever heard, in spite of the fact that Matt and Gunner were quite friendly. I mean, Matt did ask a few of the obvious, hard questions... but they weren't hostile at all.

Either way, as much as Gillespie tried not to blame the CBC main office, it really feels like he's frustrated with his budget and we're getting the bare minimum from the CBC. That and it seems like they're just generating content without a larger strategy and putting it online... which is exactly the wrong way to do things if you want people to start becoming habitual users of your site.

I wonder why Joey Coleman wasn't at this interview, that would have spiced it up.

Sorry, but apparently they can't even run a blog where some 80% + of the content is made elsewhere...

A sad interview, a sad showing proving Gillespie has little to no knowledge of what he's been tasked with, and even less on how to deliver it.
