Downtown development continues to heat up in Hamilton. A report going before City Council highlights 14 new residential developments being approved for city loans. The 14 million dollars in city money is resulting in 117 million worth of construction in the core.
Among the highlights:
Of the 14 projects, 11 are happening along the King East corridor between the Gore and Wellington Street. This is most welcome news and we assume that City Council will be more than enthusiastic in approving these projects.
Raise the Hammer will present a detailed report on each project in our next issue, as well as some other exciting news regarding more residential development along Hamilton's Beachfront.

supposedly nothing more than parking lot expansion, although if I had to guess I'd say that a store expansion is in the works...perhaps as a fortinos or whatever company owns no frills. thats just pure speculation though. the actual permit calls for more parking.

I think it is great there is new development happening, however, I am concerned on a few levels. These condos etc. are not providing geared to income housing for families or seniors. Every Condo built should have some units available for geared to income living. Then, I would say we are making progress in making Hamilton livable. If we ignore the poor and aged and the handicapped we are living with blinders on. That is all we need is a yuppy community pushing people onto the street.
