Bring Rick and George to Supercrawl

The next annual James North Supercrawl will be this coming Saturday, September 25, 2010 (the day before the next Open Streets Hamilton), and Michael Marini from the city's Ec Dev/Downtown and Community Renewal office has struck a local campaign to convince Rick Mercer and George Stroumboulopoulos to attend.

The campaign's Facebook page begins:

Rick Mercer and George Stroumboulopoulos are always looking for great story ideas for their shows and we think there's one that deserves national profile: James Street North's Supercrawl.

Also worth watching is a documentary video on Supercrawl 2009.

A major difference between the monthly Art Crawl and the annual Supercrawl, aside from the sheer scale of the event, is that Supercrawl actually closes part of the street to automobile traffic to create a safer, more welcoming space for patrons, visitors and strollers.

can I make a suggestion? If we're closing down the street for supercrawl anyhow, let's leave it closed for both days so we can follow the advice of a poster in the Open Streets thread who mentioned how Montreal closes the streets for a few days in a row which encourages restaurants and cafes to erect huge patios on the street since they know they won't have to take them down after one day. We could do the same here.

Bill it as a less retarded nuit Blanche and you'll have a winner.
