Halfway House Party

By Jason Leach

According to a recent news story on CHML, another inmate strolled out the front door of Hamilton's notorious halfway house and into our neighbourhoods. His list of offenses is numerous and police consider him armed and very dangerous.

Once again, you and I - law abiding citizens - are put at grave risk so the government of Canada can continue on with this ridiculous notion of re-integrating people into society.

They chose to break the law and injure or kill others. It's not my job to throw a big "welcome back to society" party for them because the government would rather give billions of dollars to the oil industry (yeah, they've had a rough year) instead of keep our cities safe.

Has anyone ever stopped to check if postal offices in the US that have been victimized by gun-toting criminals have sought them out to offer them their job back three years later? Probably not. I don't think you'd be too impressed with your boss if this was a common practice.

The Liberals have yapped about safety and re-tooling the justice (or lack thereof) system for over a decade now. They obviously don't care about you and me or our children. What do you say we make this a major election issue in Hamilton and get someone in Ottawa who will actually look out for us for a change?

Email your MP (don't bother if they're Liberal, the track record speaks for itself) and political candidates and ask them to clearly state their opinion on this halfway house and others just like it in Canada.

Then, make your vote count next month and stand up for yourself.

Lord knows the government won't.
