Doors Open Hamilton

Doors Open Hamilton - Culminating Architecture Week (April 30 to May 8), Doors Open Hamilton promises to be a wonderful event. Some 33 historic buildings across Greater Hamilton will be opening their doors on May 7 and 8, offering residents and visitors a rare opportunity to explore Hamilton's rich history. Tours include:

H Magazine

H Magazine - Dave Kuruc's new magazine, dedicated to "Hamilton's urban stories, architecture, design and history," is celebrating its launch with a party on Saturday, April 23, 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, at 205 King St. E, Hamilton (the former S. Lees Men Shop).

Trans-Mission - Transportation for Liveable Communities has launched Trans-Mission, a new magazine to give voice to Hamilton's creative, passionate community of people who are struggling to make this city friendlier to non-drivers. Check out Randy Kay's essay, "Erasing Trails: A Walking Reflection".

Mayday - Come to the launch party for Mayday Magazine on Saturday, April 30, at 24 King St. E. Mayday is Sky Dragon's new monthly news and analysis report. Doors open at 8:00 PM, and admission is $8.

Art Gallery of Hamilton - Celebrate the re-opening of the The Art Gallery of Hamilton in style at their Taste of Art wine reception, Saturday, May 28, 2005, 6:30 PM to 1:00 AM. Tickets are $200 per person or $2,000 per table, so book early before they're gone!

The End of Suburbia - Due to popular demand, the Staircase Cafe is screening The End of Suburbia again in April (see the event calendar for details). In addition, Mike Balkwin is hosting a workshop to discuss how citizens and communities can address the end of cheap energy.

Fridge Comedy Festival

Fridge Comedy Festival - Hosted by The Staircase Cafe, the Fridge Festival is a great showcase for new comedy acts. The event grows each year, and they've expanded the lineup beyond Hamilton for this year's event. Check out their website for details.

Fictional Landscapes - Hamilton Artists Inc. is exhibiting Natasha Henderson's paintings of imagined places and situations from March 18 to April 23 (sometimes, we at RTH feel like we're living in fictional landscapes).

Carmen - Opera Hamilton presents Carmen at Hamilton Place from April 16 to 23.

Spring Music Festival - After a two-year hiatus, the Festival is showcasing a number of acts from Thursday, May 12 to Saturday, May 14. Venues include Club Absinthe, The Casbah, The Corktown, AFB, and underground.

Commuter Challenge - Come experience some good, old fashioned cognitive dissonance at the "The 2005 Commuter Challenge Corporate Launch and Media Breakfast", Friday, April 22, 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM at the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, 555 Bay Street North. City Councilor Bob Bratina will discuss the history of transportation in Hamilton, and Chris Hill, Hamilton's Central Fleet manager, will speak about Green Fleets. Earth Day Hamilton - It may have become little more than a corporate social responsibility showcase, but Earth Day can still be an opportunity to remember that keeping the world healthy is everyone's responsibility. Check out the event calendar for this year's events.

Should do like a group event with Raise the Hammer during the Doors Open. Get together, know the city a little better, take some pictures and get to know each other.
